Producing grounded knowledge about a country of continental dimensions, with a population of more than 200 million people and the contradictions that characterize it is a challenge that the organizers dare to face and from which this book has resulted. With the advent of the pandemic and the enormous impact it had on the daily lives of teachers and students, with the need to reformulate research practices, with closed libraries and remote classes, the book project suffered delays. The book was written by geographers who highlight the centrality of the concept of space as an essential interpretative key to understanding the social, political, economic, cultural and environmental dynamics of the past and the present. In a country where more than 80% of the population lives in areas considered urban and deeply differentiated, deciphering the contents of Brazilian urbanization in its relation to social and territorial inequality, manifested in different scales, is a sine qua non condition.
